The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bojan Maricik, and State Secretary Drita Abdiu-Halili today had a working meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, João Gomes Cravinho, where they discussed the opening of accession negotiations for North Macedonia's membership in the EU, as well as the challenges that await the country in the coming period.
For the upcoming period of the meeting, it was emphasized that the country remains committed to maintaining a positive portfolio - as confirmed in the latest EC reports on the countries, but also in international rankings such as GRECO, Freedom House, Transparency International, etc., as well as that the level of transposition of EU law is now 45%.
Prime Minister Maricik indicated that the efforts to ensure the smooth running of the negotiation process in all its aspects will be directed through the revision of the negotiation structure, finding a model for the participation of civil society in the process and the capacities for translating EU law into the Macedonian language will also be increased in the next period - including linguistic, professional and legal revision and verification of the translated EU legislation and the creation of mechanisms for transparent and timely communication with citizens is provided.
