The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov today had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Jeppe Kofod, within his official visit to North Macedonia.
At the meeting they discussed the current status of our European dossier and the possibilities for overcoming the obstacles for holding the first intergovernmental conference with the EU. The importance of the continuous implementation of the reform process for the Europeanization of society was emphasized, with a focus on the areas of the first cluster "Foundations".
Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov stressed that the file of North Macedonia is crucial for maintaining the dynamics in the enlargement process and the credibility of the EU in the region.
Dimitrov: "The opening of the accession negotiations of North Macedonia with the EU is an issue that is weighs on the Union's side because it is a test for validation of the European perspective of the region, and also reflects on the strength of the Union's postulates as a community of values. European integration process moving forward, based on an objective evaluation of the Copenhagen criteria, will bring new energy and confidence to strengthen the European idea of unification, which is necessary in the context of the internal processes taking place within the Union."
The Danish side clearly expressed assurance that the European perspective of North Macedonia must be consistently implemented according to the decision of the Council of the EU, and given the results achieved during the implementation of the European agenda and it reaffirmed its support for the official start of the process by holding the first intergovernmental conference. MFA Kofod emphasized the country's progress and congratulated the leadership shown in resolving issues of importance for the region and for Europe.
Dimitrov and Kofod also discussed the modalities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the context of support in the process of approximation to the European values and standards in key areas such as the rule of law, with specific projects and expert assistance.
