Deputy Prime Minister in
charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani had a meeting with the Minister of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Pertugal, Augusto Santos Silva within his
working visit to Portugal.
At the meeting they opened
the topics related to the European integration of the Republic of North
Macedonia, before the coming European Commission Report and the June summits of
theEuropean Union. Deputy Prime Minister Osmani referred to the implemented
reforms in the key priority areas of rule of law, security and intelligence
services, public administration reform and the fight against organised crime
and corruption, which, as Osmani said, created the so- called track record,
i.e. visible results from the reforms, as an important benchmarkfor the
European integration process.
"I highly appreciate
the Portuguese support to the Euro- Atlantic aspirations and for the start of
the accession negotiations of North Macedonia, as well as the general position
of Portugal for support of the enlargement on the Western Balkan countries
which will bring stability to the entire region and open the doors for
cooperation in many fields, which is certainly in the interest of maintaining
stability throughout Europe", stressed the Deputy Prime Minister Osmani
pointing to the new European reality on the Balkans - the Republic of North
Macedonia as a stable partner of the European Union in the promotion and
protection of the European idea in the region, or as he stressed: "The link that Europe is missing on the
Balkans"
"Although we are
currently in a pre-election campaign, we are continuing to implement the
reforms with a strong dynamic to deliver results in this key period for our
European integration, to receive a clear recommendation from the Commission, as
well as confirmation of the decision to start negotiations with the EU this
year year," Osmani added.
As part of his working visit to Portugal, the Deputy Prime Minister
Osmani also had a meeting with the President of the Committee on European
Affairs within the Parliament of the Republic of Portugal, Regina Bastos, and
he will participate at the Annual Horasis Global Meeting on Sunday (April 7th)
which is one of the world's leading government business leaders where this
year's discussions will be focused on the topic "Catalysation of the
benefits of globalisation".
