Deputy
Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani had a meeting with
the Acting Deputy Minister for foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Gent
Cakaj, who pays a working visit to our country.
During
the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Osmani expressed great gratitude to Minister
Cakaj, as well as to the Government of the Republic of Albania, for the prompt
ratification of the protocol with NATO, as part of the continued support for
our Euro-Atlantic integrations.
"The
symbolism of this essential gesture is another proof of the extremely good
relations between the two countries, which not only have no mutual open issues
from a long time ago, but, on the contrary, they build relations that represent
a true expression of the mutual friendship and closeness of the citizens of
both countries" - stated Osmani.
During
the meeting, Osmani pointed out that in addition to the success of Prespa, the
Government's determination to reforms, the political sensibility of the citizens,
today's success of our country is at the same time a fruit of the sincere and
unreserved support by our international friends, including the support of our
neighbour , the Republic of Albania, which corresponds with the importance of
this success for the two countries, and for the region as a whole.
"North
Macedonia and Albania are ahead of the start of the negotiations for membership
in the European Union and the mutual support in this process is an expression
of our mutual interest in the success of both countries in their ambitions to
start negotiations with the Union this year. We have a few more months to
aggressively address our obligations, and to persuade the member states that we
have the capacity, that we have progress and that we deserve the start of
negotiations with the EU "- Osmani added.
At
the end of the meeting, the interlocutors jointly agreed that it is necessary
to provide support for the other processes in the region, referring to Kosovo
and Serbia, whose open issue deserves at least the same treatment from the
international community and neighbours, as well as the already closed dispute
between North Macedonia and Greece, because it is currently the most important
and the most complex issue in the region, and they also agreed that success in
overcoming this dispute would be a success for all countries in the region.
