Deputy Prime Minister at the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of European Affairs, Arbër Ademi PhD attended the information session at the opening of the first call for proposals under IPA 2 cross- border cooperation programme between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania at the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje.
The first call for proposals within IPA 2 cross- border cooperation programme between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania was opened on September 16th 2016 and potential beneficiaries from both countries will have the opportunity to apply with joint projects to November 1st 2016.
Deputy Prime Minister Ademi explained that the overall goal of the first call for proposals is to stimulate balanced, inclusive and sustainable socio - economic development in the border area or Pelagonia, Polog and Southwest regions of Macedonia and the regions Dibra, Korca and Elbasan from the Albanian side. He noted that this goal is expected to be achieved through implementation of joint cross-border projects in the three thematic priorities covered by the call as follows: support of tourism, cultural and natural heritage, improving competitiveness, business, trade and investments, environmental protection, promotion of the adaptation and reducing the impact of climate change, risk management and prevention. The total indicative budget of the European Union allocated to the first call is 2.890.000 euros, i.e. financial allocations for 2014 and 2015, funds for which Financing agreements have already been signed, said Ademi.
We have successfully implemented over 50 joint projects within the IPA 1 programme for cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania so far and we have gained great experience and built partnerships in the cross- border region that cannot be the basis to improve the success of the new programme.
Deputy Prime Minister Ademi invited all potential beneficiaries, such as municipalities, national and local institutions, civil society organisations, working in the fields of tourism, culture, environment, education, business and other entities which are eligible according to the package for applying to take active participation in this call for proposals.
