During his working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of European Affairs, Arbr Ademi PhD, had a meeting with the Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy of the European Commission, Mr. Christian Danielsson.
The current political situation in the country, the activities related to the organisation of the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Urgent Reform Priorities and IPA funds, were among the topics discussed during the meeting.
Regarding the political situation, Deputy Prime Minister Ademi referred to the obligations arising from the agreement of July 20th, while the interlocutors concluded that the assessment of the political leaders that the conditions for organisation of parliamentary elections is a positive step forward. In the upcoming period it is necessary to make efforts to organise democratic, credible and inclusive elections whose results will be widely accepted.
In terms of Urgent Reform Priorities, Ademi stressed the need to continue the implementation of the measures and activities, given that it comes to areas that are essential for reforms related to the EU integration process of the country.
He also stressed that the commitment to full implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement remains, which is the cornerstone for further improvement of inter-ethnic relations and coexistence in the country.
Among other, the interlocutors agreed that the support the work of the Special Prosecutor's Office shall continue.
Ademi stressed that the assistance which the country receives from the EU IPA funds is essential for implementation of the reforms that are important not only for the country but also for the citizens. Therefore, we make every effort to improve the absorption capacities and to provide more efficient use of funds.
In this context, it was jointly concluded that the practice of close cooperation and coordination between state institutions and the European Commission should continue in order to address the recommendations from the lessons learned so far and to ensure more efficient implementation of projects.
