Following the working meeting held in Belgrade last week, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov, as a Government representative, together with the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, held an online follow-up meeting today within the “Open Balkans” initiative.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the chambers of commerce from the three countries and the competent institutions, including the ministries of finance, economy and agriculture, as well as national food safety agencies and customs and tax offices, in order to determine the problems in facilitating trade, particularly focusing on import, export and transit and practical ways in which to overcome them, as steps that need to be taken until the next leadership meeting scheduled to take place in Tirana in December this year.
Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov stated that apart from the strong political will, there are already mechanisms in place that have to be activated in order to deliver the necessary specific results:
“Our challenge for the forthcoming period is how to overcome the obstacle pertaining to the relevant implementation of the agreed measures and activities, which with our common commitment, is absolutely possible.”
The coordination resulted in setting a date for a working meeting between the competent institutions, and the role of the Council for Implementation was, in that sense, emphasized.
