On behalf of the Government of North Macedonia, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov arrived today in Belgrade to attend the working meeting as part of the “Open Balkans” initiative.
Upon arrival, Mr. Dimitrov stated that the regional cooperation is exceptionally important for the realisation of the common strategic goals to which the Government is committed regardless of the political situation, and his presence at this meeting only confirms the latter:
- Above all, I have arrived here today with the message that regional cooperation is absolutely a European story, one that we do wish to continue and intensify this cooperation. Tomorrow we shall add another important segment – the manner in which digitalization can help accelerate and intensify regional cooperation.
My arrival today comes at a time when, as you know local elections have just taken place in our Macedonia, North Macedonia, and there are certain political challenges and in a way there is a political crisis.
It is important as a Government and as a country to signal that we are fully committed to this initiative developed in the Balkans, and European Balkans is its primary aim.
On the schedule there are leadership meetings with the Serbian President – Aleksandar Vucic and the Albanian Prime Minister – Edi Rama, as well as with representatives of companies from the three countries participating at this platform for advancement of regional cooperation in the context of European integration.
