The Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Bojan Maricik, today had a meeting with the German Ambassador in the country, Anke Holstein.
The latest developments and progress in resolving outstanding issues with Bulgaria were discussed at the meeting, as the only obstacle to starting negotiations, while Deputy Prime Minister Maricic pointed to a new approach to resolving these issues, which they greed are promising a positive outcome and gives a new value to the commitment of North Macedonia to join the European Union.
"The visit of the German Minister for Europe, Anna Lührmann, who came just on time when the Government started working with upgraded policies and an amended program, means clear and unequivocal support for our European integration. "The fact that enlargement is high on the agenda of Chancellor Scholz's government shows that Germany remains a strong supporter and strategic partner of North Macedonia in the European perspective, but also of the integration of the Western Balkans as a region," Maricik said.
At the meeting, German Ambassador Holstein expressed support for the reforms being implemented in the country, but also that Germany remains a vigilant monitor of the progress in the implementation of the reforms.
