Chapter 3.15 Energy covers the following sectors: security of energy supplies, internal energy market, state aid, renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear energy and nuclear safety and radiation protection.
The acquis is a set of policies aimed at enabling the transition to low-carbon economy, where the focus is on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, as well as on reducing greenhouse gases. The EU is at the forefront of decarbonisation through the adoption of the Energy Roadmap 2050, with high goals for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and increasing renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, i.e. the EU will have a climate-neutral economy, which is at the heart of the European Green Deal based on the Paris Agreement. The EU is committed to the uninterrupted functioning of internal energy markets, the full liberalisation of energy markets, ensuring security of different energy supplies, diversification of energy supply sources.
