10:08, Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani, had a meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, presented by Arjen Taselaar, Head of the Department for International Relations and Projects, and Hans Yonkher Coordinator for International Relations in the Western Balkans and EU accession. At the meeting they discussed the possibilities to support the reform process in the Republic of Macedonia, especially in providing expertise for key areas such as the judiciary, fundamental rights, rule of law, security, etc.

"One of our highest challenges is the continuation of the reform momentum, in line with the guidelines of the EU June summits, especially in the area of judicial reform and ensuring the rule of law", Osmani stressed, pointing out the successfully initiated monitoring process with Chapter 23 - Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.

"The Netherlands is one of the strongest supporters of the Republic of Macedonia and our integration processes, but also a country with which traditionally we have exceptionally successful cooperation. I certainly expect that this support, in this moment when the country faces the challenge of closing the issue of the Euro-Atlantic perspective and launching EU membership negotiations," said Osmani, expressing gratitude for the cooperation and expertise offered by the Netherlands in the process of addressing the necessary reforms.

At the meeting Osmani also referred to the current political situation, expressing confidence to the interlocutors that the current political challenges will not jeopardize the Government's reform agenda, and the envisaged reforms will be implemented in a timely manner.
