Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for European Affairs, Arber Ademi PhD today paid his first working visit to the Republic of Slovenia. During the visit he had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Karl Erjavec.
During the meeting, they also discussed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries which was assessed as exceptionally high and both countries have a strategic partnership characterized by continued support for the process of European-Atlantic integration of Macedonia. It was also concluded that there are grounds for further cooperation in the sphere of economic relations and trade relations.
Regarding the current political situation in the country, the two interlocutors stressed that it is of utmost importance in the coming period, especially in the next few days, to take all necessary actions to overcome the current situation. Both sides agreed that Macedonia needs democratic and credible elections, in terms of political resolution and focus on the implementation of the Urgent Reform Priorities, continuation of the European -Atlantic trajectory.
Regarding the migration crisis, the positive and constructive role of the Republic of Macedonia was highlighted in dealing with it and its contribution to the prevention of attempts for illegal crossing of the Macedonian- Greek border. Macedonia's role was regarded as very important and clear contribution to the overall EU plan to deal with the migration crisis.
The interlocutors addressed the importance of good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation, especially in the context of the Berlin process, the implementation of the measures agreed in Vienna and Paris Summit preparations. It was stressed that bilateral disputes should not impede the Western Balkan countries on their path towards the EU.
During the visit in Slovenia, Deputy Prime Minister Ademi had a working meeting with Mrs. Darja Bavdaž Kuret, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with her team.
