Besimi pays a visit to the Kingdom of Sweden: the Swedish support to Macedonia for the European Union as a process of strengthening the stability and development in the Western Balkans region

During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister Besimi met the Minister of European Union Affairs, Mrs. Birgitta Ohlsson, members of the Commission for thThe Swedish support e European Union in the Swedish Parliament, Mrs. Walburga Habsburg Douglas and Mr. Fredrick Federley, as well as the State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Mr. Frank Belfrage.

At the meeting with the Minister of European Union Affairs, Mrs. Brigitta Ohlsson, the Deputy Prime Minister Besimi noted that Sweden is undoubtedly a strong advocate of the enlargement policy of the European Union, as well as a great supporter of the Euro-Atlantic integration process of the Republic of Macedonia, and its EU support to Macedonia may serve as a model process for strengthening the stability and development of the Western Balkans region.

“The Swedish Presidency with the European Union in 2009 was of great importance for the Republic of Macedonia for obtaining a positive Report from the European Commission and a recommendation for accession negotiations, as well as for obtaining visa liberalization with the EU”, pointed out the Deputy Prime Minister Besimi.

The Minister Ohlsson, again, emphasized the Swedish support that Macedonia will receive at the forthcoming meeting of the European Council in December for determining a date for start of accession negotiations in the European Union.
