OSMANI: THE NEGOTIATIONS ARE COMMON INTEREST OF NORTH MACEDONIA AND EU MEMBER STATES
14:59, Sunday, March 31, 2019

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs Bujar Osmani today had an open briefing with representatives of the mass media, where he gave an overview of the situations related to the European integration, with special emphasis on the implemented reforms, the achieved results, the manner in which the institutions are adapting to the reforms, the upcoming elections and other processes - ahead of the next European Commission and European Union June summits.

"Over the past 2 years, we have undergone an extremely hard and intensive process that contained a number of political challenges, such as the agreements with Greece and Bulgaria, and we managed to create a consensus on the Law on Languages; then we managed to reconcile a number of systemic reform changes in the area of judicial reform and security services reform, creating institutions according to European standards whose work began to deliver results in the fight against organised crime and corruption," Osmani stressed in his report on the work done in the past period in terms of reaffirmation of the confidence in the state, the trust in the institutions and the return of the country to the European and Euro-Atlantic paths.

"We made changes in some of the institutions in a transparent and merit-based procedure, we established new institutions in accordance with the reforms, some of these reformed institutions started to function, and most importantly, this effort starts to be noticed, ie. to create the so-called track- record or visible results of the reforms, which is of course the most important for the citizens, but it is also an important benchmark for our European integration," Osmani added, pointing out that he expects this reform momentum to be clearly expressed in the coming European Commission Report, for which he added he expects to be the best ever, with clearly identified areas where progress is recorded.

"We have a great opportunity to persuade all member states that the negotiations with the Republic of North Macedonia represents a mutual interest, in the direction of achieving European priorities for a safer, more stable and more prosperous Europe," Osmani stressed, pointing out that the country is a partner of the European Union in the implementation and the expansion of the European idea on the Balkans.
