11:57, Friday, February 08, 2019

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani, during his working visit to Washington visited the US Congress, where among the others, he had a working meeting with the new Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the US Congress - Elliot Engel.

"As never before, the entire region of the Western Balkans is influenced by a strong European and Euro-Atlantic momentum, in which Macedonia, with its behaviour and Euro-Atlantic success, plays an important role in reinforcing this influence", stressed Osmani at the meeting, expressing gratitude to Congressman Engel, whose role in creating the Western orientation of the whole Balkan region is unambiguous.

"With your presence, advocacy and support, you have left an indelible mark on the implementation of the Western values of the Balkan region, on the basis of which today"s success in the progress of the whole region has been built, as well as and our success to achieve our fundamental ambition - NATO membership", Osmani stressed at the meeting, thus congratulating the new position to Congressman Elliot Engel, as a Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee at the US Congress.

"This new position leads us to further future cooperation, for which, as a good connoisseur of the regional circumstances, I expect to have an even greater positive impact on the implementation of Western values in the Balkans," Osmani stressed.

Congressman Eliot Engel handed over the letter to Osmani, which he, as a Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee at the US Congress, together with Congressman Michael McCaul, who is laso a member of the committee, address directly to the Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to support Macedonia in its Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and therefore they state in the letter that it is of a direct interest to the USA and its allies.

Earlier Osmani also participated in the traditional prayer breakfast organised by the US President Donald Trump, and during his visit to the US Congress he had meetings with Congressman Steve Stivers, who until January this year served as President of the National Republican Committee in the US Congress, and within the Senate visit, Osmani also had a meeting with Senator Ron Johnson, who is also Chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee at the US Senate.
