15:52, Friday, September 28, 2018

The European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn joined the representatives of the Republic of Macedonia and the European Commission on the second day of the working meeting for the explanatory screening for Macedonia and Albania to prepare the negotiations for full membership in the European Union.

Immediately after the concluding remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and the Chief Political Negotiator and Head of the Delegation for Negotiations with the European Union, Dr. Bujar Osmani and the European Commissioner Hahn held a joint press conference.

Deputy Prime Minister Osmani thanked EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the European Commissioner Han and the European Commission administration, primarily DG NEAR led by Christian Danielsson and Genoveva de Ruiz Calavera for the perseverance and selfless dedication to help Macedonia bridge its challenges to EU integration.

Osmani emphasised that "he soon expects the Macedonian language to join the remaining official languages of the Union, and also because the Republic of Macedonia has been writing history yesterday and today." He noted that the big government - state delegation is taking part in working meetings with representatives of the European Commission, where Chapter 23 - Judiciary and Fundamental Rights as part of the final preparatory stage prior to the start of the negotiations is reviewed in a precise and detailed manner.

"Indeed this is the moment we have been waiting for a long time, for which we are carefully preparing ourselves, and for which, all the former governments, which represent all the most important political factors in the country. Let me conclude on the second day of the screening process - we have succeeded. Macedonia irretrievably moves towards full membership in the European Union and there is no way back."

Deputy Prime Minister Osmani stressed that "this present success is the implementation of the historical dream of all Albanians from Macedonia."

Osmani pointed out that the Republic of Macedonia will maintain the reform impetus, the implementation of bilateral agreements and the provision of high capacities for the screening and negotiation process. Finally, he told the representatives of the European Union that Macedonia will remain committed to the European values and will make efforts to create a safe, more stable and united Europe, a Europe that protects.
