Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister Besimi with the delegation of OSCE ambassadors
Today, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government in charge of European Affairs, Dr. Fatmir Besimi held an informal meeting with the ambassadors of the OSCE Member States.
The meeting was organised within a three-day visit to the Republic of Macedonia, which is part of regular informal visits of ambassadors to regions where the OSCE is present. The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the previous activities of the organisation, regional development and relations between states, and the possibilities for future cooperation between OSCE and the Republic of Macedonia, according to national priorities and interests of the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister Besimi informed the attendees about the status of implementation of the priorities of the High Level Accession Dialogue and about other important reforms of the European integration process, particularly referring to the activities undertaken for freedom of expression, elections, public administration reform, implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the reduction of unemployment.
The support of the OSCE Member States for the accession process of the Republic of Macedonia’s EU and NATO accession and satisfaction of the results were emphasised at the meeting, and also the country was encouraged to continue with the further implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement and to promote the inter-ethnic relations.
The Deputy Prime Minister Besimi expressed his gratitude for the previous OSCE assistance in areas under its jurisdiction, and as areas where cooperation could proceed, the electoral reform, promotion of inter-ethnic relations and the reconciliation process, reform of the police and penal policy, protection from discrimination, etc. were pointed.
